 A CHILD'S LIFE IN THIS WORLD. 

 

As a child and a scout boy I wanted to play my part in helping my community. This is how I decided to be part of the Ecological Party that our local municipality started back in early 1990's.

It all began by recruiting boys and girls from schools and social group and  societies or the like. I was invited by a classmate and scout friend Pablo. We took part in several initiatives to improve some green areas as well as giving hand with the cleaning of promenade and sea side in playa Los Molinos.

 

 

For about 6 months we went every Saturday morning to pick the rubbish gathered by the sea side, let the seaweed cleaned and recuperate some areas among the rocky side.

We also helped at our local river location by taking action in cleaning the rubbish led by visitors. We had a well organized party and had cleaned a big portion under our custody. 

Sometimes, we took part along with the local Lutheran chapel and went out in the night to provide a warm beverage plus a nice slide of cake to vagabonds.  We made many friends among them and some even had a name for us 'the scout coffee party'. How I treasure those good old days! Lastly, this is why I decided to become a language teacher, I wanted to help people.

 

Post 6 - Post Graduate Studies

As a language teacher, I wanted to do something related language. Specifically, how do we learn a second language, after we have learnt our first one. In Chile, most people are going under this process as they are learning English as a second language.

I set  forth several objectives before I went there, tons of questions I reserve for my lectures. I also wondered regarding the readings that would be required and which ones would be related to my Chilean background.

So, I studied TESOL (Teaching English as a Second language to Other Languages) in England. I attended one of the best universities on the field in the country and in the world. I learnt how a language is acquired or learnt. Similarly, all the processes involved in the learning, how the brain is activated, the cross-cultural background and more.

We began our lessons in a room full of students from 30 different nationalities. Most of them used English as a second language, some as a first. But most astonishing to me, was the fact that many used it as a third or even a fourth language. I learnt from them, about their experiences to become a language user and a teacher of the language. I had to read the latest theories and discussions on education, language teaching, English language history, and English language evolution on articles and books.

Thus, I studied Sociolinguistics, where I learnt how a language is pictured within a society. English Grammar, where I learnt that a language hides more than simple grammar rules, but complex ways to arrange ideas. World Englishes, where I leant that English is been shaped according to the people’s uses. I really enjoyed doing my post grad!

This week we are writing about an artist or a celebrity that you admire. An engaging topic where you can present your personal likes regarding people you cherish and honour. You can include some of his/her present and/or past work.

My dad used to have a remarkable LP disc collection. Among some that I remember the most is Mr. B. J. Thomas. Dad had his Songs and Christmas LP. All songs where very quiet and simply beautiful. Later in life, I had the chance to buy a disc on my own. One day, I went to our local Disc store 'O'Higgins' and bought a CD that happened to be 'on sale' so I paid a very affordable price.

This CD has been part of my personal collection ever since. His work is called 'Home where I belong' Which is a gospel-like featured. It contains 10 tunes where with a magnificent voice and a peaceful pace tells of his hopes and longing for a better future.

He was always ranked as a 'gentleman'. Many people recalls him as a positive and attentive person. Many artists refer him as a 'really joyful and polite singer'..'a real gent' some say other say.

 

He passed away last May 29th. I was really touched by the news but happy to know he went 'Home where he belongs'.
